“Working the cut” leads to Success

“Working the cut” leads to Success

This post might be slightly graphic for some, but we promise it will make sense. Everyone that competes or watches MMA wants the quick highlight reel knockout that gets played over and over in perpetuity. The reality is, they don’t happen too much.

A more likely scenario is that you land a strike that opens a small cut, and then your job is to keep “working the cut,” aiming for that area over and over until the cut gets bigger, the fight gets stopped, and you get “the dub.” Your goals and grappling work the same way, only with a lot less blood. (Pinky promise.)

When you start training, you’re going to love it, and you’re going to wish you had a magic wand so that the next morning you could wake up with all the important skills and tactics to be the world’s best grappler or the ability to be in the best shape possible downloaded into your brain. Sadly, it doesn’t work that way.

But if you show up every day and “work the cut,” creating small, incremental openings for yourself, eventually things will fall into place, and you will find yourself holding whatever title or reaching whatever goal it is you want to accomplish.
