Disclaimer: before we get into today’s article, participating in tournaments is NOT a requirement to be a member of No Limits Grappling Academy. We do encourage it but you will never be forced to do a tournament if you are not comfortable. The majority of jiu-jitsu practitioners actually never participate in tournaments.
Why Do We Want World Champions to Come from No Limits Grappling Academy?
We want high level competitors to come out of No Limits Grappling Academy.
We want future Pan Am and future World champions to come out of No Limits Grappling Academy. There. We said it.
We get told a lot not to say stuff like that because “it might scare people.” Good.
Hang on, hang on, please don’t stop reading.
That “good” doesn’t mean that we want to scare people off from coming in and trying out jiu-jitsu if they just want to do it as a hobby or a fun new activity, far from it. That “good” means that every once in a while you should do things that scare you.
You see, even though we do eventually want actual world champions to come from the gym, what we really want goes beyond simply having physical medals, belts, or trophies.
What we want is to help you strive for more.
What we want is to help you not settle for the status quo. What we want is to help you smash through the limiting beliefs that hold you back. What we want is to help you understand that there is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best at something and then actively working every day towards achieving it.
If that scares you, good.
Having big goals, big dreams, and big aspirations (whether they’re competitive or not) should scare you, at least a little bit. But what should scare you even more is having those big goals, dreams, and big aspirations and never working towards them because you (or others) don’t think it’s possible.
So we want high level competitors and world champions to come out of No Limits eventually.
What do you want to achieve?
